My husband’s aunt and uncle live in a retirement community not far from us. On the grounds is a garden, with individual plots. Any resident who wishes to tend to a plot may do so, and a few times a year, after our family dinners, we take a walk through and behold the beauty of this amazing garden.
Every time, my husband laments that these people continually put us to shame.
But in truth, it warms my heart tremendously. Not only that there are people who, in retirement, still want to add beauty to the world, but that there’s a community of people supporting them, encouraging them, imploring them to do exactly that.
