What's left of summer can fit in the palm of my hand.
In just a matter of days, both girls head back to school. One starts first grade, one faces another year of preschool.
I really can't believe it's that time already. It seems like school just let out, and here we are, making sure we have backpacks and lunch boxes, shoes that fit, and lots of ideas for snacks and school lunches.
When I think back to my own childhood summers, I have such wonderful memories. The sun, the sand. The parks, the museums. Bathing suits, flip flops. Playing with friends, visiting family. Family vacations and day trips. And, of course, the never-ending excitement that existed in my own backyard.
I'm having real feelings about the end of summer and start of school! I'm torn between knowing I'll miss their sweet faces and voices, and knowing that they are really, truly ready for the structure, stimulation, and learning that's going to happen at school.
And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to enjoy a little alone time. Because I will. I will like nobody's business.
I really wanted my daughters to have an easy summer. And as we prepare for the start of school, I can only hope that this summer was as wonderful for them as it was for me.
We'll be seeing you, Summer. Until next year...
