I’m taking a photography workshop on embracing my inner artist. This weekend’s assignment challenged me way beyond my comfort level: we were charged with leaving our homes, on foot, with one camera and one lens, and photographing only things within our immediate surroundings.
And we had to narrow it down to only 10 photos.
I live in a pretty suburban area. The only thing within walking distance of my home is other people’s homes. I wasn’t entirely sure how comfortable my neighbors would be with my photographing their homes and yards, so for this assignment, I decided to stick to my own property. I ventured off only to photograph where my snow meets the street.
The purpose was to look at what’s ordinary with the eye of an artist. And MAN, was it challenging! But in the end, I have to say I’m pretty content with this set.
It’s kind of amazing what you can find when you look in your own backyard.
